Our client’s brief was for a garden retreat, not simply an off the shelf solution, but a bespoke design that would accommodate a range of functions, including entertainment space, a kitchen and dining area, WC/Shower and gym. They also requested the ability to have extra sleeping area for guests; all set at the rear of their generously sized garden in Kingston SW London.

Our response was a 60 sqm space occupying the full width of the plot, delivered under permitted development, built with a steel frame, and infill block-work walls and a timber framed roof. This is a robust building that will last for many years, built to high standards of insulation and performance. The building is divided into 3 key zones, a kitchen/living area, a gym, and then WC/shower and mini utility. The 2 main spaces can be divided off with a full height sliding wall, with the external doors opening out onto an external dining area, BBQ and hot tub.

Externally the main facade is clad in a black slatted composite cladding, laid vertically and matching the colour of large aluminium sliding doors. Internally, the whole space has a polished concrete floor, with plastered walls and ceilings in the main space, maple-ply clad to the walls, ceiling and roof-light soffits in the gym – the latter creating a warmer, hard wearing space to train in.

The WC and shower are functional, fully tiled so acting as a wet room when guests using the hot tub are in and out of the space.

This studio is a multi use luxury space, reflecting a families need for a lifestyle built around relaxation, wellness, family meals and entertainment.
